pianist, piano teacher, 3.oct.1833 baptized as Ludovicus at the catholic Dom in Mainz, 25.jul.1851 he emigrated to the USA New Orleans, 1855 he settled in Chicago as pianist and piano teacher, he toured with Carlotta Patti and with Louis Moreau Gottschalk, 1862-1863 at 164 Clark Street, 1864 at 3 Knight's Block 1867-1870 at room 17 Crosby Opera House, among his pupils were Thomas P Westendorf (1857) and Silas Pratt (1866), 11.apr.1866 in Chicago he applied for a passport to travel abroad, 11.apr.1866 in Chicago he became naturalized American, 1871-1876 after the great fire of Chicago he was piano teacher in New York, 23.mar.1889 in Chicago he applied for a passport to travel abroad, 1885-1889 piano teacher at his Staab's Piano School at 330 Ohio Street in Chicago, spent his last years at the Chicago Home for Incurables 26 Delaware Place and died at Englewood Union Hospital ; son of composer Johann Staab (Bliescastel 29.apr.1808-14.oct.1885 Mainz) and Barbara Gebhard (Mainz 2.aug.1809-17.oct.1879 Mainz) ; brother of composer Franz
Staab ; oct.1870 in Chicago he married composer Diana Ashton who died 1873 ; he left a widow pianist 'Mrs. Louis Staab of Kentucky' who was still living in 1905
